Welcome to Daybreak - Drug Addiction Counselling, Therapy, Family Work and Training For Dagenham, Barking & Havering, Essex
Daybreak was set up by a local vicar the Revd Deryck Spratley in 1985 as a result of his concern for the drug related deaths of three young men in the local area of Barking and Dagenham.
Since its inception Daybreak has developed into a professional counselling agency for drug users and/or their families. It offers a range of treatments to help clients address their drug related problems in a way that is best suited for their particular needs.
The clinical team consist of staff from both professional backgrounds and/or backgrounds of personal experience of drug use. Since 1985 Daybreak has earned a good reputation for providing a quality service which is confidential, safe and set within a comfortable friendly environment.
Daybreak is an independent charity partly funded by the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) and partly by grants and donations. This mix of sources enables Daybreak to remain innovative and responsive to emerging needs identified both by the National Treatment Agency (NTA) and as an independent service within the community. There is an ongoing strategy to develop and pilot new services to maintain active involvement in current local community issues. Daybreak now has branches based in Dagenham, Havering and Basildon, Essex.
Due to the broad range of professional qualifications, training and skills possessed by the clinical team we do not believe it is necessary to promote one particular treatment/therapeutic model. We are not an abstinence based programme and are happy to help clients explore and understand their drug use as much as working on achieving and maintaining drug abstinence. Work with individuals may include educational, directive or prescriptive interventions but Daybreak remains fundamentally an agency which provides both relational counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.
